Solution

The file system of a server has a tree structure. Subdirectories (subfolders) branch off from the root directory, from there further subdirectories branch off etc. A website has a similar structure. It starts with a root directory (root folder) and usually has several subdirectories (subfolders) such as /images, /styles, /includes etc. More directories (folders) can branch off from this.

The root directory of a website is also called the document root, root, or root folder. It is not the root of the server, but the root of the website.

This root directory is not the directory that you first see when you connect to your server via FTP. Rather, it is one of the subdirectories branching from there. Please refer to the notes in the related article on "server path".

By default, the document root of your main domain is /httpdocs. The document root of an additional domain is /&%lt;domain name>. In the webspace control panel’s "Hosting Settings", you can name the root folder path of your website differently. However, we strongly recommend that you use the server default. Most customers do not understand directory structures well. The chaos usually becomes perfect when own creations are used for seemingly well-organized structures. This is because permission issues are often unwillingly created or file or directory owners are set incorrectly.
